Let's talk about nerdy things!
How did Sutekh survive "The Big Bang"?
With the reveal that Sutekh has been clinging to the outside of the TARDIS for the last 49 years of Doctor Who television history, many fans have been wondering if this retcon doesn't hold up with the TARDIS's universe ending destruction in the Matt Smith era season finale episode "The Big Bang". Today, we look back at this episode and ask not only "how did Sutekh survive the explosion", but also "did he cause it?"
This video contains spoilers for the Matt Smith Eleventh Doctor and Ncuti Gatwa Fifteenth Doctor eras, as we review and recap the plans of Sutekh and the Silence. Evidence specifically comes from the following episodes: "The Pyramids of Mars", "The Pandorica Opens", "The Big Bang", "A Good Man Goes to War", "Time of the Doctor", "The Legend of Ruby Sunday", and "Empire of Death".
From Wikipedia:
Following the end of the previous episode, alien time traveller the Doctor (Matt Smith) is trapped in a prison from which escape is impossible, the space-time vessel the TARDIS has blown up with the time-travelling archaeologist River Song (Alex Kingston) inside, and the Doctor's companion Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) has been shot and killed by an Auton replica of her fiancé Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill). As the universe is collapsing, the Doctor uses time travel to solve these problems and ultimately reboot the universe. The episode sees the climax of Amy's character arc and the story arc of the series regarding the cracks in the universe, though Moffat chose to leave a few things unexplained.

Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins - Live Streaming Play Review
This video is 9 minutes and 19 seconds too long. The answer to the question is "he didn't, he wasn't there" Because when that story was created, Sutehk wasn't even a thought. Trying to retroactively explain away an absurd story line that just came out is useless. Because it wasn't thought of in the first place and will never be thought of again.
A very interesting theory, quite like it
I just want to say without watching this video, there are plenty of child prodigy athletes that can beat even adult pro athletes so Jecki was just the goat
Annnnnd thats about it lol
Yep, she was a pretty talented padawan I'll give her that like wow, her fight scenes were easily the peak moments. She moved so fast man.
Being a Sith was never an indication of strength, the force was never either. Just how to justify the use of it is. His use of the dark side and mastery of it was never a clear indicator, other was Mae would never have been able to fight multiple Masters. Yes its a plot hole but lore-wise kind of how it works.
How could Obi Wan as Padawan fight with Maul ??? 😂😂😂
To be fair it was already established that he was able to take on Vader in the OG trilogy and that he was Vader’s master at one point. Obi wan was a force to be reckoned with and he just lost his master and we basically see him tap into the dark side with anger/rage in how he fought maul. It was believable that he could challenge a sith as a padawan with that knowledge.
Maul wasn't a true sith, he was what we now know is an acolyte or what we used to call a sith assassin. He was strong and vicious but anyone with good enough training could kill him, he unfortunately got the upper hand on qui gon :(
I know this doesn't count but Ahsoka should get an honorable mention as she took on maul and won, grievous and survived, and handled herself well against ventress - all while being an apprentice. I'd say Vader too but by that time she's much closer to a knight (if not already) than a padawan, even if there is no "knighting" that we see. Jecki stole the show for me - Aggressive, Resourceful, Fast, and never gave up. Great Choreography and even better work by her actress, Daphne Keen. You can tell she took this shit seriously! (Which is probably why she lasted longer than the other knights in a 5v1, her actress was just badass lol)
I really wanted to include Ahsoka, and in my heart I do, but there were too many "buts" for her to cleanly make the list. While a Padawan she fought Asajj and Grievous, but neither are a Sith (Asajj is an assassin/acolyte, but not a full sith), and when she fights Maul she is technically not a Jedi and he technically not a Sith. Didn't feel like having the "um actually"s in the comments or to have to go all into all of that in the video
@@JoshEssex Im with you 100% - Great video!
She was badass man. Did more than Yord and the rest of the Jedi fodder 😂
Wasn't Obi wan a padawan in ep1?
Exactly, anyone that says a padawan can’t take on a Sith is just not a Star Wars fan, they’re just stirring up hate for attention.
@@passiondono4692 I think it’s more of the fact that these other Jedi knights/masters were getting dispatched like it was nothing when it was like 5v1 and then the padawan 1v1’s the Sith and was able to knock his helmet off and make him stumble back?
Shes a girl duhhhhh
She was so awesome! So sad she is gone😢
I have this book. Love it!
Awesom review
lol
Just watched it too as a long time NuWho fan who has seen every episode from Christopher Eccleston to Ncuti gatwa about 3 times each, and I completely agree that rewatching the pyramids of mars was worth it. I'm supper hyped for the finale and I really want to see a modernised version of the big bad Sutekh himself even if his mask is really cool in the classic ep. My theory is that Ruby Sunday will actually a part of Sutekh's plan to get free or more importantly to get revenge on the doctor, which is why her past is so surrounded in confusion. Loved the review tho and think you should do more classic who reviews. I find they can sometimes be a little slow to watch but making reviews on them could be helpful motivation. Have an amazing day/night.
Very cool!!👍👍🚨
My theory for future tv series what if ruby might be mother of Susan also could river or rose be mother of ruby?
Is there any chance Vernestra could secretly turn to the dark side? I have a theory for The Acolyte. The obvious choices regarding the sith behind the Tokyo Ghoul mask is Tenebrous, Plagueis, or Qimir. I don't believe it's any of them. I think there are 2 Acolyte's of the Sith Apprentice. Mae and Qimir. What if Lesilye pulls a, OMG WTF moment by revealing Vernestra is the secret 1st apprentice of Tenebrous? It would be similar to when the jedi found out Dooku, who was trained by Yoda himself surprisingly turned Sith. It could easily solve many questions we still have regarding why Plaguesis pushed Palpatine to get into politics and set him up to eventually become a senator and eventually Chacellor. Maybe it started with Vernestra? She could have been feeding Tenebrous secret Jedi info and political info for future generations until the jedi discovered the betrayal of Vernestra. This could be why the council still figured the Sith hasn't been seen in 1000 years. Maybe only a select few jedi knew of this until Vernestra dies. As for the jedi who could have survived, maybe this is where Tenebrous and or Plagueis hunted them down until no survivors were left to report this to the council. I think this could be very interesting and it could work. What are your thoughts?
It's an interesting thought that I definitely hadn't thought of before. Nothing is impossible, but with the way I feel she was characterized in the books, her character seems to be most concerned with how can she best live up to the expectations placed on her with being seen as a young prodigy and with her Master having been one of the great Jedi of his time. I think the time between the books and the series are her becoming more and more committed to being a by-the-book Jedi. She is annoyingly rule-following in the Acolyte and is reminding me of Mace Windu a lot in that way so far. Of course we are only 2 episodes in and a lot can happen in the 100 years in-universe time between the books and the series, but I think she is more a depiction of the slow fall of the Jedi from the heroes of the past into the stoic, disconnected monks of the prequels. Thanks for sharing your theory though, i'm very excited to see how the series progresses!
I am jewish
I wish the 1991 version had a purim special.
Great breakdown of Vernestra Rwoh's journey! Excited for The Acolyte series. Asajj Ventress and The Bad Batch discussions are intriguing.
I disagree. I think this is an amazing episode. The monster isn't the focus reveal isn't too bad. The episode was dr light but he had lots of dialogue and it allows us to explore the woman. In the end the Dr shines. Isn't the fact that you dont know where its going a positive as it means its not predictable byt more of a journey like what the companions often go through?
I think episode was done really well! It wasn't for me, but a lot of people seem to have enjoyed it and I'm really glad to see that! I was able to see the twist that (spoilers) the classist rich white people were also racist coming, but I still REEAALLLLY enjoyed Ncuti's last scene with it. I just wish we got more with him, and if we weren't going to (because I believe in taking things on what they are rather what I wanted them to be), I just wish the main character wasn't so irritating to be with the whole episode. Again, I totally get why, it serves the point of the episode very well, it jsut wasn't for me. But really I am very glad that you enjoyed it!
Lots of good information!👍
To be frank I found it boring. Like I had to force myself to finish watching it. I think that non Doctor stories can be done really well, like Blink is a great example. But the only answer we ever get is who the woman is. Not why is she there, not what happened to the doctor, not why everybody left Ruby, just nothing. It got to a point where I wished the doctor would just pop up and explained what was happening. It just straight up sucked
I'm not saying that Millie Gibson's performance sucked mind you. I thought it was great, but there's only so much you can do with a bad script. 95% of the time a bad episode/show/movie is because of a bad script
it explains all of it at the end if you watch it actually 👍
Cloak of deception was pretty nice
That's definitely a Legends novel I'm interested in checking out! Love me some Qui-Gon material, and I'm definitely interested in Chancellor Valorum!
@@JoshEssex why is it legends? Seems pretty canon to me nothing seems out of place It was written with the approval of George Lucas himself
@@mariobrony1396 Excuse the late reply. When Disney bought the franchise, they decanonised nearly all of the previous EU works, so anything made before 2014, apart from Ep1-6 and The Clone Wars, became called legends, and stopped being produced. Then, they started anew with the canon expanded universe works. Cloak of Deception doesn't really go against anything in canon, at least to my knowledge. So technically, you can just headcanon that into the new, Disney canon.
So the clone teams with Ventress so he can live instead of just sacrificing himself in order to finally do away with her? That makes no sense to me. The Cowardly Clone
The story is from Asajj's POV, so it's hard to say why Doc did it. It could have been a sense of self preservation, which is definitely possible given the level of individuality in the clones established in The Clone Wars series, or it could have been an attempt to demonstrate compassion, even to an enemy, which is definitely a lesson the clones picked up from their Jedi throughout the war
Excellent!!👍👍
Not sure if this is worth noting, but in one of the age of republic comics involving Mace Windu, it’s implied that Ventress actually did have another encounter with Yoda and was actually able to duel him that time around.
Oh wow! That definitely adds credibility to her increasing power! Thanks for adding!
@@JoshEssex No problem. If you want to see the specific comic for yourself, it’s issue 5 of the Mace Windu comic run for Jedi of the republic. It’s at the end of the comic where Mace brings up how there would be hardships and trails like they’d never faced before which cuts to a panel showing the main clone wars cast struggling with adversities. As said one of them was Yoda and Ventress fighting. It’s likely set just before Ventress is betrayed by Dooku since she’s in her season 3 attire while fighting Yoda.
Great review! I will have to check it out! (Love your new theme song!)🎶
These are pretty much my exact thoughts about the episode. It feels like it has a lot in common with "The end of the world", which definitely isn't a coincidence.
Very good in-depth video! Barriss is a sad story, someone who wants good but has to grapple with evil and sadness to put it too simply. I look forward to seeing her in the future, and I am always rooting for her to get to the light side versus the dark, but I have a feeling she is fated for the dark side.
Why did I expect the vsauce sound effect when he asked if A.I. knows what a holiday is
😂
Eh, I can't say that I agree. For one, Stu isn't Jewish. Neither is anyone in his family prior to marrying Didi. Nobody in his family seems even the slightest bit religious. You can't really fault him for not really being into it. For two, Boris and what's-her-name have been married for like 60 years. Literally their entire life.
Fair enough! I'm not saying it's not realistic (I've been going to seders my whole life and I get bored at like 80% of it), but for it being one of the only exposure points to jewish culture for a lot of people (just see the other comments on this video), it's annoying for me to have something in there be like "eh, it's boring and not fun". And I get being upset after a fight with your spouse, but crying at the mention of his name, everytime, when it was quick spat and for all she knew he just went for a walk to cool off: seems unnecessary to me.
Oh I thought Stu was Jewish, cause aren't his parents Jewish? Or maybe it's DeeDee's parents I'm thinking of. The ones who give her a goat 🐐
Boris and Minka are Didi's parents. Grandpa Lou is Stu's dad
This was my first exposure to jewish culture as a kid
Same!
😂

Hahahaha❤
Yes there are cheesey moments in this episode but it really shows off their abilities and they have to work as a team to defeat chameleon
I wish 1991 rugrats had a purim special
you didnt even mention the republic comics
They're not canon anymore, so I didn't look into them. Were they good?
@@JoshEssex yes, I think they were better then the 2008 series and they are my personal favorite comics, you should defo read them
Rugrats (2021) is following in the footsteps of its older brother. The original 1991 series had specials for Passover and Chanukah, and now the 2021 series has a Purim special.
Thata makes up for the loss of season 10
Yeah, I had fun with it. But Nick is REALLY screwing it over.
Excellent dive into an excellent character! And I love the guest appearance of Bruno!👍
Bruno had a lot to say on the subject 😆
how dare u remind me of the first and worst heartbreak of my childhood
You're welcome!
@@JoshEssex THANKS
I'm so sick of this "Everybody hates Spider-Man" routine.
Echo goes after Kingpin because she found out that he ordered the hit on her father. Correct?
Yes! I'm just not sure why, after she shot him in the head at the end of Hawkeye, is she continuing to attack his criminal empire, as she assumes he's dead
The Muppet Christmas Carol is both one of my favorites and one of the best adaptations of Charles Dickens famous novel right next to the 1984 movie of a Christmas Carol starring George C. Scott and Disney's a Christmas Carol starring Jim Carrey.
